Please read below to further your understanding of our current program and future expansion.

The Cal Poly Dairy Products Technology Center is California's dairy processing research center, dedicated to supporting industry, product development, education, and research. Cal Poly’s renowned Learn by Doing educational experience prepares graduates to be the next generation of industry experts and leaders. We carry out innovative research with industry partners, and scientists from academic institutions around the globe.

Cal Poly’s Dairy Products Technology Center was established in 1986 and integrates education, research, and industry outreach to add value to the dairy processing sector. The DPTC is a 22,000-square-foot research and education facility, including four laboratories, an 8,300-square- foot pilot plant, sensory analysis booths, product development areas, and a commercial creamery.

The DPTC's foundation is supported by six pillars: (1) education; (2) industry outreach; (3) research; (4) visiting scientist program; (5) industry training short courses; and (6) scientific symposia.

Students receive on-the-job training in laboratory and industry manufacturing practices. Many internships are available each year with a variety of partners, including the California Dairy Innovation Center and the California Milk Advisory Board.
